About

Triton labradors was established in 1989 with the acquisition of my first labrador, Murphy.  He came to us from Jan Stolarevsky,  Ambersand Kennels in Gregory, MI.  Although Murphy never became the show dog that I had hoped, he introduced me to the wonderful world of labradors!  Along the way I had the opportunity to meet several wonderful and influential people in the labrador world, and for that I am eternally grateful.  My career path relocated me 5 times in 10 yrs., so I never had just one mentor in the breed.  Instead, I made some very nice friends from several areas of the country.  I also had the opportunity to work my dogs in the field as well as agility, depending on where I lived.  Since my very first labrador Murphy had an orthopedic anomaly at 9 months of age (OCD of the hock), I am also a keen observer of “movement” in dogs (not just labradors).   I have lived in the Boston area for the last 25 years and finally decided that it was time to venture back into the confirmation ring as well as having my first litter in over 8 yrs!   All of our dogs are pets first, show dogs second.  We do not have a kennel.  Rather, they live in the house and are members of the family.

Our goal is to produce a ”gentleman’s hunting companion”- a good looking (typey), healthy, sound, balancedand versatile dogwith that wonderful labrador temperament that is the hallmark of the breed.   Read the labrador retriever “standard” here: Breed Standard .  There really is just one Labrador Retriever breed (not English vs American).  For more info, please read the article on Pawcatuck Labrador Retriever sitelisted at the bottom of this page.

They should be “at home” on your couch or in the field retrieving.  All of our dogs, whether they are breeding stock or long term residents are screened by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for hip and elbow assessment.  Their results are posted for all to view, whether they are passing or dysplastic.  We also specifically test for eye disorders (progressive retinal atrophy, juvenile cataracts etc) through a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist (ACVO) and then their results are listed with the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF). Since cardiac anomalies have been identified in labradors- tricuspid dysplasia (TVD), we have our dogs hearts auscultated by board certified cardiologists followed by a color doppler (echocardiogram) of their heart, if the auscultation is suspect.  A more recent phenomenon (~10 yrs), called Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) has been identified in Labradors as well.  For more information please click the hyperlinks below:
